About Dakota Cash

Below the jackpot, Dakota Cash prizes are fixed: $100 for four numbers, $3 for three and $1 for two. The jackpot starts at $20,000 and grows until someone wins it.

With only 35 numbers, a wheel on 10 or 12 of them catches three winning numbers on a good share of draws; each option above shows exactly how often.

What Dakota Cash wheels cost

Each of these wheels guarantees a three-number match ($3) whenever at least three of the winning numbers are among the ones you mark. The more numbers you mark, the more often that happens, and the more tickets it takes.

Numbers you markTicketsCost per drawCost per weekHow often the guarantee comes into play
8 of 358$8$161 in 15 draws, about once every 8 weeks
10 of 3517$17$341 in 7.8 draws, about once every 4 weeks

The cost per week covers all 2 draws a week. The tool above also has cheaper wheels with weaker guarantees, and bigger ones that guarantee four or five numbers.

Can a wheel improve your odds?

No. Each line still has the same 1 in 324,632 chance at the top prize and returns about $0.21 in other prizes on average, however you choose its numbers. What a wheel changes is how your wins are grouped: random tickets can all miss even when the draw lands on your numbers, and a wheel makes sure at least one ticket catches them. Questions

How many numbers should I mark?

As many as your budget allows. In Dakota Cash, going from 8 to 18 numbers takes the cost from $8 to $94 a draw, and the three-number guarantee from 1 in 15 draws to 53%. Lottery pools can afford the bigger wheels, which is where wheels make the most sense.

What is EZ Match?

For $1 more per line, you get an instant-win game printed on your ticket that pays on the spot. It's separate from the drawing and doubles a wheel's cost.

Can I play online?

No. South Dakota Lottery tickets are sold only in stores.
