New Zealand lottery wheels
Free wheels for Lotto NZ and Lotto Powerball. Mark the numbers you like and see exactly what each wheel covers if enough of them are drawn, what it costs and how often that happens. Prices are in New Zealand dollars.
Combo tickets and wheels
A Combo ticket plays every combination of 8, 9 or 10 numbers, so if all six winning numbers are among yours, it holds them. A wheel plays only some of those lines, chosen so that if fewer of your numbers are drawn, at least one line still matches them. It costs a small part of the price, and it can't do what a full Combo does. Combos are sold only in stores; a wheel's lines can be entered in MyLotto.
| Your numbers | Combo ticket | Wheel: 3 if 3 are drawn | Wheel: 3 if 4 are drawn |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 | Combo 8: 28 lines, $19.60 | 4 lines, $2.80 | 3 lines, $2.80 |
| 9 | Combo 9: 84 lines, $58.80 | 7 lines, $4.90 | 3 lines, $2.80 |
| 10 | Combo 10: 210 lines, $147 | 10 lines, $7 | 4 lines, $2.80 |
Three numbers win 4 free Lotto lines. Combo prices are 70c a line, as Lotto NZ's rules set; add 80c a line for Powerball. No choice of lines changes the odds of any one line or what tickets pay back on average.
Buying tickets in New Zealand
- Lotto has no minimum age in New Zealand until 2027, when every Lotto NZ game becomes 18+ (by 29 March 2027 at the latest). Instant Kiwi is already 18+.
- Every Lotto ticket needs at least 4 lines (NZ$2.80). There are no extra fees in store or online.
- MyLotto has a spending limit of NZ$150 in any 7 days across all games, and you must be in New Zealand to buy. A big wheel played every draw may need to be bought in a store.
- Coupons must be marked by hand. MyLotto Favourites (up to 10 tickets a game) give a QR code a store can scan, which saves marking a big wheel by hand.
- Lotto NZ sells Combo 8, 9 and 10 tickets in store: full wheels that play every combination of your numbers. The wheels here cover the same numbers with far fewer lines.
In a Lotto store, mark each line on a coupon by hand: machine-marked coupons aren't accepted. Or enter your lines in MyLotto (online or in the app) as Pick Your Own tickets of up to 20 lines, or save them as Favourites and have a store scan the QR code.
For the official rules and results, see Lotto NZ. LotteryWheels.com is independent and not part of Lotto NZ.
Syndicates
Lotto NZ's Team Play page explains how to run a syndicate, with a sample team agreement and payment tracker. The captain buys the tickets, online from their own MyLotto account (within its NZ$150 limit) or in a store. Running a syndicate for money is against Lotto NZ's rules, so nobody should take a cut.
Tax on prizes
Lotto prizes aren't taxed in New Zealand, and there's no gift duty, so a syndicate captain can pass on members' shares. Interest earned on winnings is taxed as usual.
