South African lottery wheels
Free wheels for South African Lotto, South African PowerBall and Daily Lotto. Mark the numbers you like and see exactly what each wheel covers if enough of them are drawn, what it costs and how often that happens. Prices are in rand.
Multiplay boards and wheels
Since June 2026 the National Lottery sells Multiplay boards, which play every combination of the numbers you choose at the normal price of each board. If all the winning numbers are among yours, a Multiplay board holds them. A wheel plays only some of those boards, chosen so that if fewer of your numbers are drawn, at least one board still matches them. It costs a small part of the price, and it can't do what a full Multiplay does.
| Game and your numbers | Multiplay | Wheel: 3 if 3 are drawn (Daily Lotto: 2 if 2) | Wheel: 3 if 4 are drawn (Daily Lotto: 2 if 3) |
|---|---|---|---|
| South African Lotto: 7 | 7 boards, R35 | 4 boards, R20 | – |
| South African Lotto: 8 | 28 boards, R140 | 4 boards, R20 | 3 boards, R15 |
| South African PowerBall: 6 + 1 PowerBall | 6 boards, R60 | 4 boards, R40 | – |
| South African PowerBall: 7 + 1 PowerBall | 21 boards, R210 | 5 boards, R50 | 3 boards, R30 |
| Daily Lotto: 6 | 6 boards, R18 | 3 boards, R9 | – |
Three numbers win R20 in Lotto and R100 in PowerBall; two numbers win a share of Daily Lotto's Division 4, about R5 on average. Multiplay prices are R5, R10 and R3 a board, the same as single boards. No choice of boards changes the odds of any one board or what boards pay back on average.
Buying tickets in South Africa
- You must be 18 or over to play.
- A LOTTO board is R5, and the same board can also play LOTTO PLUS 1 and LOTTO 5 MAX for R2.50 each. POWERBALL is R10 a board (R5 more for POWERBALL XTRA) and DAILY LOTTO R3.
- Sales close at about 8:30 p.m. on draw days (8:25 p.m. in the Nedbank app). Absa takes up to 20 boards per ticket and adds its own transaction fees, so a big wheel is bought as several tickets.
- Since June 2026 the National Lottery sells Multiplay boards: every combination of 7 or 8 LOTTO numbers, 6 or 7 POWERBALL numbers with one PowerBall, or 6 DAILY LOTTO numbers, at the normal price of each board. The wheels here cover the same numbers with far fewer boards.
Buy at a National Lottery retailer, from the National Lottery online, or in a banking app: Absa and Nedbank both sell LOTTO, POWERBALL and DAILY LOTTO. Enter each line of a wheel as a board of its own.

Syndicates
Syndicates are legal in South Africa, so friends or colleagues can share boards and prizes. The Lotteries Act bans anyone from making money out of promoting or running one, so nobody should take a cut. Agree in writing who's in, what each person pays and how prizes are shared, before the draw.
Tax on prizes
National Lottery prizes aren't taxed in South Africa: SARS leaves them out of capital gains tax. Interest earned on winnings is taxed above the yearly exemption, and giving more than R100,000 a year away can attract donations tax, so a syndicate should agree its shares before it wins.
