About Daily Lotto

Daily Lotto is drawn every night: 5 numbers from 36 for R3 a board. Two numbers win a share of Division 4, which gets about 40% of the prize pool, so wheels that cover two of your numbers have a prize behind them far more often than in most games.

Its jackpot never rolls over while anyone wins a prize: if nobody matches all five, it goes to the next division with winners. Daily Lotto Plus ended when Sizekhaya took over in June 2026, and a Multiplay board plays every combination of 6 numbers (6 boards).

What Daily Lotto wheels cost

Each of these wheels guarantees a three-number match (a share of Division 3, about R20 on average) whenever at least three of the winning numbers are among the ones you mark. The more numbers you mark, the more often that happens, and the more tickets it takes.

Numbers you markTicketsCost per drawCost per weekHow often the guarantee comes into play

15 of 3655R165R1,1551 in 3.0 draws, about 2 times a week
18 of 3694R282R1,9741 in 2.0 draws, about 4 times a week

The cost per week covers all 7 draws a week. The tool above also has cheaper wheels with weaker guarantees, and bigger ones that guarantee four or five numbers.

Daily Lotto Multiplay entries and wheels

A Multiplay entry plays every combination of the numbers you choose, at the full price of every board, so if all the winning numbers are among yours, it holds them. A wheel plays a few of those boards instead. If 2 of your numbers are drawn, at least one of its boards matches 2 (a share of Division 4, about R5 on average); it can't promise more than that.

Multiplay prices are the official prices, and so are the wheels'. No choice of boards changes the odds of any one board, or what entries pay back on average.

Match-2 wheels: more numbers for fewer tickets

In Daily Lotto, two numbers on one line pays Division 4: shared, about R5 on average. A match-2 wheel guarantees that whenever at least two of the winning numbers are among the ones you mark, at least one ticket matches two. That takes far fewer tickets than a three-number guarantee, so the same money covers many more numbers.

It doesn't change your odds or your average return, whichever tickets you play. What it changes is how regularly those small wins come and, with more numbers marked, how often three or four winning numbers land among yours by luck.

Key-number wheels

A key number goes on every ticket, and a smaller wheel covers the rest of your numbers. That cuts the cost a lot, which is why key wheels are popular. The catch is that the guarantee only counts in draws where your key is drawn, and in Daily Lotto any one number is drawn about once in 7 draws.

So for the same money, a normal wheel's guarantee comes into play more often. Here are three-number guarantees side by side:

Prize amounts are as published by South African lottery information sites; the National Lottery's own rules weren't available to check. Every division shares a prize pool of half of sales, so amounts vary from night to night; the averages shown are our estimates from the published shares. There are no rollovers: if nobody matches all five, the jackpot goes to the next division that has winners. Rules, prizes and odds were checked on October 9, 2026 against the Absa and Nedbank lottery pages and published prize tables (the National Lottery's own site can't be read from outside South Africa); always confirm them, and your results, at the National Lottery.

Can a wheel improve your odds?

No. Each line still has the same 1 in 376,992 chance at the top prize, and on average about 50c of every rand comes back as prizes, jackpot included, however you choose the numbers. What a wheel changes is how your wins are grouped: random tickets can all miss even when the draw lands on your numbers, and a wheel makes sure at least one ticket catches them. Questions

How many numbers should I mark?

As many as your budget allows. In Daily Lotto, going from 8 to 18 numbers takes the cost from R24 to R282 a draw, and the three-number guarantee from 1 in 16 draws to 1 in 2.0. Lottery pools can afford the bigger wheels, which is where wheels make the most sense.

How do I play these tickets in South Africa?

Buy at a National Lottery retailer, from the National Lottery online, or in a banking app: Absa and Nedbank both sell LOTTO, POWERBALL and DAILY LOTTO. Enter each line of a wheel as a board of its own.
