About California Fantasy 5

California Fantasy 5 has only 39 numbers and a draw every day, so the draw lands on several of your numbers far more often than in SuperLotto Plus or Powerball. Each wheel option above shows exactly how often its guarantee pays off.

Unlike Florida's Fantasy 5, the top prize here rolls over: it starts between $60,000 and $80,000 and keeps growing until someone matches all five.

What California Fantasy 5 wheels cost

Each of these wheels guarantees a three-number match (recently $11 to $16) whenever at least three of the winning numbers are among the ones you mark. The more numbers you mark, the more often that happens, and the more tickets it takes.

Numbers you markTicketsCost per drawCost per weekHow often the guarantee comes into play
8 of 398$8$561 in 20 draws, about once every 3 weeks
10 of 3917$17$1191 in 10 draws, about once a week or more
12 of 3929$29$2031 in 6.3 draws, about once a week or more

18 of 3994$94$6581 in 2.4 draws, about once a week or more

The cost per week covers all 7 draws a week. The tool above also has cheaper wheels with weaker guarantees, and bigger ones that guarantee four or five numbers.

Can a wheel improve your odds?

No. Each line still has the same 1 in 575,757 chance at the top prize, and on average about 50¢ of every dollar comes back as prizes, jackpot included, however you choose the numbers. What a wheel changes is how your wins are grouped: random tickets can all miss even when the draw lands on your numbers, and a wheel makes sure at least one ticket catches them. Questions

How many numbers should I mark?

As many as your budget allows. In California Fantasy 5, going from 8 to 18 numbers takes the cost from $8 to $94 a draw, and the three-number guarantee from 1 in 20 draws to 1 in 2.4. Lottery pools can afford the bigger wheels, which is where wheels make the most sense.

How do I play these tickets in California?

Copy each line onto an official California Lottery playslip, or read your lines to the clerk.

Is this the same as Florida Fantasy 5?

No. They share a name, but California's game uses 39 numbers and Florida's uses 36, with different prizes and draw times. We have separate wheels for each.
