About Montana Cash

Montana Cash plays are sold in pairs: $1 buys two, and you pick the numbers on both, so a wheel costs 50¢ a line. Below the jackpot, prizes are fixed: $200 for four numbers, $5 for three and $1 for two.

The jackpot starts at $40,000 and grows by $10,000 every draw until someone wins it.

What Montana Cash wheels cost

Each of these wheels guarantees a three-number match ($5) whenever at least three of the winning numbers are among the ones you mark. The more numbers you mark, the more often that happens, and the more tickets it takes.

Numbers you markTicketsCost per drawCost per weekHow often the guarantee comes into play
8 of 458$4$81 in 31 draws, about once every 4 months
10 of 4517$9$181 in 15 draws, about once every 8 weeks
12 of 4529$15$301 in 9.2 draws, about once every 5 weeks
15 of 4555$28$561 in 5.1 draws, about once every 3 weeks
18 of 4594$47$941 in 3.2 draws, about once every 2 weeks

The cost per week covers all 2 draws a week. The tool above also has cheaper wheels with weaker guarantees, and bigger ones that guarantee four or five numbers.

Can a wheel improve your odds?

No. Each line still has the same 1 in 1,221,759 chance at the top prize and returns about $0.15 in other prizes on average, however you choose its numbers. What a wheel changes is how your wins are grouped: random tickets can all miss even when the draw lands on your numbers, and a wheel makes sure at least one ticket catches them. Questions

How many numbers should I mark?

As many as your budget allows. In Montana Cash, going from 8 to 18 numbers takes the cost from $4 to $47 a draw, and the three-number guarantee from 1 in 31 draws to 1 in 3.2. Lottery pools can afford the bigger wheels, which is where wheels make the most sense.

What is Max Cash?

For $1 more, a ticket also plays for a second, separate jackpot, which it can only win by matching all five numbers. It doesn't change any other prize, so it adds nothing to a wheel's guarantee.

Is there a limit on how much I can play?

Montana can refuse prizes if one person or group buys more than 5% of all possible combinations in 24 hours. Every wheel here is far below that.

Can I play online?

No. Montana Lottery tickets aren't sold online, though licensed courier services operate in Montana. The Montana State Lottery app can make digital playslips (QR codes) that retailers scan.
