What a Texas Two Step wheel does
A wheel takes more numbers than fit on one line and spreads them across several tickets in a careful pattern. The pattern guarantees a minimum win whenever enough of the winning numbers are among the ones you picked.
For example, one 8-number wheel uses 14 tickets ($14 a draw). If three of the four winning numbers are among your 8, at least one ticket matches three (estimated $20). With 8 numbers out of 35, that happens on 1 in 33 draws.
What it doesn't do
A wheel can't change the odds of the draw. Each line has the same 1 in 1,832,600 chance at the top prize as any other, and on average pays back about 50¢ of every dollar as prizes, jackpot included, whether you use a wheel, quick picks or birthdays.
What a wheel changes is how your wins are grouped. Random tickets can all miss even when the draw lands on your favorite numbers. A wheel makes sure at least one ticket catches them.
Matching two numbers without the Bonus Ball pays nothing in Texas Two Step, so every wheel here guarantees at least a three-number match. Be wary of any system that promises "two numbers every time."
Texas Two Step is a 4-number game: you pick 4 numbers from 35, plus a Bonus Ball from a separate drum of 1 to 35. With only four numbers on a line, wheels are small and cheap.
The Bonus Ball on its own wins a guaranteed $5, and with one number $7, so the Bonus Ball choice below matters more than in most games: mixing them gives more of your lines a chance at those small prizes.
Texas Two Step prizes and odds
| Match | Prize | Odds per line |
|---|---|---|
| 4 numbers + Bonus Ball | Jackpot, from $200,000 | 1 in 1,832,600 |
| 4 numbers | Est. $1,500 | 1 in 53,900 |
| 3 numbers + Bonus Ball | Est. $50 | 1 in 14,779 |
| 3 numbers | Est. $20 | 1 in 434.68 |
| 2 numbers + Bonus Ball | Est. $20 | 1 in 656.85 |
| 1 number + Bonus Ball | $7 | 1 in 101.92 |
| Bonus Ball only | $5 | 1 in 58.24 |
The jackpot starts at $200,000, grows until it is won and is paid in one payment. Prizes for 2 to 4 numbers are shared among the winners, so they vary; amounts shown are the Texas Lottery's estimates. The Bonus Ball alone, or with one number, always pays $5 or $7. Questions
How many numbers should I mark?
As many as your budget allows. More numbers make the guarantee pay off more often, but they need more tickets.A wheel that guarantees a three-number match whenever three of your numbers are drawn costs $14 a draw with 8 numbers and $30 with 10. Wheels with weaker guarantees cost less. Office pools can afford bigger wheels, which is where wheels make the most sense.
Which Bonus Ball should I use?
Your choice. Putting the same Bonus Ball on every ticket means that if it's drawn, every ticket matches it. Mixing them means more of your tickets have a chance, but only one or two can match. On average the two pay the same.
How do I play these tickets?
Print them and fill in a playslip line for each ticket at any Texas Two Step retailer, or enter them in the lottery's app if it sells tickets online in your area.
Can the Bonus Ball be one of my four numbers?
Yes. It's drawn from its own drum of 1 to 35, so it can be the same as one of the four main numbers.
How is the jackpot paid?
In one payment: Texas Two Step has no annuity. It starts at $200,000 and grows until someone matches all four numbers and the Bonus Ball.
Is this site part of Texas Two Step?
No. LotteryWheels.com is an independent site and doesn't sell tickets. Always check your tickets against the official results at texaslottery.com.
