About Tri-State Megabucks
Tri-State Megabucks is sold in New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine. You pick five numbers from 1 to 41 and a Megaball from 1 to 6. With only six Megaballs, it matches on one line in six, and it lifts every prize: four numbers pay $150, or $1,300 with the Megaball.
Below the jackpot every prize is fixed, from $2 for two numbers to $30,000 for five, so every wheel guarantee has a known value. The jackpot starts at $1 million and grows until someone wins it.
What Tri-State Megabucks wheels cost
Each of these wheels guarantees a three-number match (at least $7) whenever at least three of the winning numbers are among the ones you mark. The more numbers you mark, the more often that happens, and the more tickets it takes.
| Numbers you mark | Tickets | Cost per draw | Cost per week | How often the guarantee comes into play |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 of 41 | 8 | $16 | $48 | 1 in 23 draws, about once every 8 weeks |
| 10 of 41 | 17 | $34 | $102 | 1 in 12 draws, about once every 4 weeks |
| 12 of 41 | 29 | $58 | $174 | 1 in 7.2 draws, about once every 2 weeks |
| 15 of 41 | 55 | $110 | $330 | 1 in 4.0 draws, about once a week or more |
| 18 of 41 | 94 | $188 | $564 | 1 in 2.6 draws, about once a week or more |
The cost per week covers all 3 draws a week. The tool above also has cheaper wheels with weaker guarantees, and bigger ones that guarantee four or five numbers.

Can a wheel improve your odds?
No. Each line still has the same 1 in 4,496,388 chance at the top prize and returns about $0.57 in other prizes on average, however you choose its numbers. What a wheel changes is how your wins are grouped: random tickets can all miss even when the draw lands on your numbers, and a wheel makes sure at least one ticket catches them. Questions
How many numbers should I mark?
As many as your budget allows. In Tri-State Megabucks, going from 8 to 18 numbers takes the cost from $16 to $188 a draw, and the three-number guarantee from 1 in 23 draws to 1 in 2.6. Lottery pools can afford the bigger wheels, which is where wheels make the most sense.
Which Megaball should I use?
Your choice. Putting the same Megaball on every ticket means that if it's drawn, every ticket matches it. Mixing them means more of your tickets have a chance, but only one or two can match. On average the two pay the same.
Where can I play Tri-State Megabucks?
In New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine, which run it together as the Tri-State Lottery.
Can I take this printout to the store?
Not as a playslip: the Tri-State rules don't accept copied or machine-printed playslips. Copy your lines onto official playslips, or read them to the clerk. In New Hampshire you can also buy online, on the New Hampshire Lottery's website and app.
