About Irish Lotto

Irish Lotto changed in September 2026: it's now 6 numbers from 45 (it was 47), drawn three times a week. Many other sites still show the old game. Three numbers, or two plus the Bonus Number, pay a fixed €4; the bigger prizes share a fund.

Every ticket needs at least two lines (€4), so any wheel of two or more lines can be bought as it is. Lotto Plus adds €1 a line and enters every line in two more draws with fixed prizes, up to €1 million each, so your wheel's guarantee applies in each of them too.

Matching two numbers without the Bonus Number pays nothing in Irish Lotto, so every wheel here guarantees at least a three-number match. Be wary of any system that promises "two numbers every time."

What Irish Lotto wheels cost

Each of these wheels guarantees a three-number match (€4) whenever at least three of the winning numbers are among the ones you mark. The more numbers you mark, the more often that happens, and the more tickets it takes.

Numbers you markTicketsCost per drawCost per weekHow often the guarantee comes into play
8 of 454€8€241 in 17 draws, about once every 6 weeks
10 of 4510€20€601 in 8.9 draws, about once every 3 weeks
12 of 4515€30€901 in 5.5 draws, about once every 2 weeks
15 of 4531€62€1861 in 3.2 draws, about once a week or more
18 of 4548€96€2881 in 2.2 draws, about once a week or more

The cost per week covers all 3 draws a week. The tool above also has cheaper wheels with weaker guarantees, and bigger ones that guarantee four or five numbers.

Key-number wheels

A key number goes on every ticket, and a smaller wheel covers the rest of your numbers. That cuts the cost a lot, which is why key wheels are popular. The catch is that the guarantee only counts in draws where your key is drawn, and in Irish Lotto any one number is drawn about once in 8 draws.

So for the same money, a normal wheel's guarantee comes into play more often. Here are three-number guarantees side by side:

The jackpot starts at €2 million and is capped at €16 million; once it has sat at the cap for five draws, it must be won or it rolls down. Three numbers, or two plus the Bonus Number, pay a fixed €4; the other prizes share a fund, so they vary (the amounts shown are the expected ones). The Bonus Number counts when it matches one of your numbers that missed. Can a wheel improve your odds?

No. Each line still has the same 1 in 8,145,060 chance at the top prize, and the same average return, however you choose its numbers. What a wheel changes is how your wins are grouped: random tickets can all miss even when the draw lands on your numbers, and a wheel makes sure at least one ticket catches them. Questions

How many numbers should I mark?

As many as your budget allows. In Irish Lotto, going from 8 to 18 numbers takes the cost from €8 to €96 a draw, and the three-number guarantee from 1 in 17 draws to 1 in 2.2. Lottery pools can afford the bigger wheels, which is where wheels make the most sense.

How do I play these tickets in Ireland?

At a National Lottery agent, fill in a playslip for your lines or tell the agent your numbers, and they'll key them in. Post Offices and other outlets that sell only Quick Picks can't sell your own numbers. You can also buy online or in the National Lottery app if you live in the Republic of Ireland and you're there when you play.

Should I add Lotto Plus?

It's €1 more a line and enters the same lines in two extra draws, Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto Plus 2, with fixed prizes from €2 for three numbers up to €1 million for all six. A wheel's guarantee works in each draw separately, so Plus gives the same wheel three chances a draw for €3 a line.
