About Hit 5
Below the cashpot, Hit 5 prizes are fixed: $150 for four numbers and $15 for three, and two numbers win a free play. The cashpot starts at $100,000 and grows until someone wins it.
Hit 5 is drawn every night. With 42 numbers, a wheel on 10 or 12 of them catches three winning numbers on a fair share of draws; each option above shows exactly how often.
What Hit 5 wheels cost
Each of these wheels guarantees a three-number match ($15) whenever at least three of the winning numbers are among the ones you mark. The more numbers you mark, the more often that happens, and the more tickets it takes.
| Numbers you mark | Tickets | Cost per draw | Cost per week | How often the guarantee comes into play |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 of 42 | 8 | $8 | $56 | 1 in 25 draws, about once every 4 weeks |
| 10 of 42 | 17 | $17 | $119 | 1 in 13 draws, about once every 2 weeks |
| 12 of 42 | 29 | $29 | $203 | 1 in 7.6 draws, about once a week or more |
| 15 of 42 | 55 | $55 | $385 | 1 in 4.3 draws, about once a week or more |
| 18 of 42 | 94 | $94 | $658 | 1 in 2.8 draws, about once a week or more |
The cost per week covers all 7 draws a week. The tool above also has cheaper wheels with weaker guarantees, and bigger ones that guarantee four or five numbers.

Can a wheel improve your odds?
No. Each line still has the same 1 in 850,668 chance at the top prize and returns about $0.24 in other prizes on average, however you choose its numbers. What a wheel changes is how your wins are grouped: random tickets can all miss even when the draw lands on your numbers, and a wheel makes sure at least one ticket catches them. Questions
How many numbers should I mark?
As many as your budget allows. In Hit 5, going from 8 to 18 numbers takes the cost from $8 to $94 a draw, and the three-number guarantee from 1 in 25 draws to 1 in 2.8. Lottery pools can afford the bigger wheels, which is where wheels make the most sense.
Does a wheel break Washington's rule against buying up a game?
No. Washington doesn't allow buying combinations that would guarantee the jackpot or grand prize, which means buying every possible combination. A wheel only combines the numbers you chose, so it can only win the top prize if the winning numbers are among yours.
Can I take this printout to the store?
Not as a playslip: Washington doesn't accept photocopied or printed playslips. Copy your lines onto official playslips, or read them to the clerk. Tickets are sold only in stores; online sales and couriers aren't allowed.
