About Match 4

Match 4 has only 24 numbers, the smallest pool on this site, so wheels cover a big share of the field. Every prize is fixed: $10,000 for all four numbers, $20 for three and $2 for two.

With so few numbers, a wheel's guarantee comes into play often. Each option above shows exactly how often, and what it pays.

What Match 4 wheels cost

Each of these wheels guarantees a three-number match ($20) whenever at least three of the winning numbers are among the ones you mark. The more numbers you mark, the more often that happens, and the more tickets it takes.

Numbers you markTicketsCost per drawCost per weekHow often the guarantee comes into play
6 of 246$12$841 in 28 draws, about once every 4 weeks
8 of 2414$28$1961 in 11 draws, about once every 2 weeks
10 of 2430$60$4201 in 5.6 draws, about once a week or more

15 of 24124$248$1,73651% draws, about once a week or more

The cost per week covers all 7 draws a week. The tool above also has cheaper wheels with weaker guarantees, and bigger ones that guarantee four or five numbers.

Can a wheel improve your odds?

No. Each line still has the same 1 in 10,626 chance at the top prize and returns about $0.37 in other prizes on average, however you choose its numbers. What a wheel changes is how your wins are grouped: random tickets can all miss even when the draw lands on your numbers, and a wheel makes sure at least one ticket catches them. Questions

How many numbers should I mark?

As many as your budget allows. In Match 4, going from 6 to 15 numbers takes the cost from $12 to $248 a draw, and the three-number guarantee from 1 in 28 draws to 51%. Lottery pools can afford the bigger wheels, which is where wheels make the most sense.

Does a wheel break Washington's rule against buying up a game?

No. Washington doesn't allow buying combinations that would guarantee the jackpot or grand prize, which means buying every possible combination. A wheel only combines the numbers you chose, so it can only win the top prize if the winning numbers are among yours.

Can I take this printout to the store?

Not as a playslip: Washington doesn't accept photocopied or printed playslips. Copy your lines onto official playslips, or read them to the clerk. Tickets are sold only in stores; online sales and couriers aren't allowed.
