About Powerball (Australia)
Australia's Powerball is its own game, not the American one: 7 numbers from 35, plus a Powerball from 1 to 20 that you pick for each game. Below five winning numbers, every prize needs the Powerball too.
Five winning numbers win Division 7 with or without the Powerball, so wheels that cover five of your numbers have a prize behind them whatever Powerball is drawn.
Matching two numbers without the Powerball pays nothing in Powerball (Australia), so every wheel here guarantees at least a three-number match. Be wary of any system that promises "two numbers every time."
What Powerball (Australia) wheels cost
Each of these wheels guarantees a three-number match (a prize only with the Powerball) whenever at least three of the winning numbers are among the ones you mark. The more numbers you mark, the more often that happens, and the more tickets it takes.
| Numbers you mark | Tickets | Cost per draw | Cost per week | How often the guarantee comes into play |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 of 35 | 4 | $6.30 | $6.30 | 1 in 5.6 draws, about once every 6 weeks |
| 10 of 35 | 6 | $9.50 | $9.50 | 1 in 3.2 draws, about once every 3 weeks |
| 12 of 35 | 11 | $17.30 | $17.30 | 1 in 2.2 draws, about once every 2 weeks |
| 15 of 35 | 15 | $23.60 | $23.60 | 66% draws, about once every 2 weeks |
| 18 of 35 | 32 | $50.30 | $50.30 | 82% draws, about once a week or more |
The cost per week covers the one draw a week. The tool above also has cheaper wheels with weaker guarantees, and bigger ones that guarantee four or five numbers.
Powerball (Australia) System entries and wheels
A System entry plays every combination of the numbers you choose, at the full price of every game, so if all the winning numbers are among yours, it holds them. A wheel plays a few of those games instead. If 5 of your numbers are drawn, at least one of its games matches 5 (usually about $53); it can't promise more than that.
| Your numbers | System entry | Wheel: 5 if 5 are drawn | Wheel: 5 if 6 are drawn |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 | 8 games, $12.60 | 6 games, $9.50 | – |
| 9 | 36 games, $56.60 | 9 games, $14.15 | 4 games, $6.30 |
| 10 | 120 games, $188.65 | 20 games, $31.50 | 5 games, $7.90 |
| 11 | 330 games, $518.85 | 34 games, $53.45 | 10 games, $15.75 |
| 12 | 792 games, $1,245.20 | 59 games, $92.75 | 16 games, $25.20 |
| 13 | 1,716 games, $2,697.90 | 78 games, $122.60 | 24 games, $37.75 |
System prices are the official selling fees, and so are the wheels' prices. No choice of games changes the odds of any one game, or what entries pay back on average.

Every division shares a prize pool, so the amounts vary; those shown are typical recent ones. Division 1 is a jackpot of at least $5 million that rolls over until it's won. You pick the Powerball from 1 to 20 for each game; below five winning numbers, every prize needs it. PowerHit, which plays all 20 Powerballs with your numbers, is a System entry of its own. Rules, prizes and odds were checked on October 5, 2026 against the official source; always confirm them, and your results, at The Lott or Lotterywest.
Can a wheel improve your odds?
No. Each line still has the same 1 in 134,490,400 chance at the top prize, and the same average return, however you choose its numbers. What a wheel changes is how your wins are grouped: random tickets can all miss even when the draw lands on your numbers, and a wheel makes sure at least one ticket catches them. Questions
How many numbers should I mark?
As many as your budget allows. In Powerball (Australia), going from 8 to 18 numbers takes the cost from $6.30 to $50.30 a draw, and the three-number guarantee from 1 in 5.6 draws to 82%. Lottery pools can afford the bigger wheels, which is where wheels make the most sense.
Which Powerball should I use?
Your choice. Putting the same Powerball on every ticket means that if it's drawn, every ticket matches it. Mixing them means more of your tickets have a chance, but only one or two can match. On average the two pay the same.
How do I play these tickets in Australia?
Mark each line on an official coupon by hand at a lottery outlet, or enter them online or in the app: The Lott everywhere except Western Australia, Lotterywest there. A coupon holds up to 18 games and an online entry up to 50. Saved as Favourites in The Lott, a big wheel can be played in store by scanning your member card.
