About Lotto

Since June 2026 every £2 Lotto line plays two rounds each draw, each with its own six numbers and Bonus Ball. A wheel's guarantee applies to each round separately, so every draw gives it two chances, and the chances here count both.

Below the jackpot every prize is fixed, from £1 for two numbers to £1,000 for five, so every guarantee has a known value. With 59 numbers a three-number guarantee comes into play less often than in a smaller game; two numbers win £1 in each round, which makes match-2 wheels an option.

What Lotto wheels cost

Each of these wheels guarantees a three-number match (£10) whenever at least three of the winning numbers are among the ones you mark. The more numbers you mark, the more often that happens, and the more tickets it takes.

Numbers you markTicketsCost per drawCost per weekHow often the guarantee comes into play
8 of 594£8£161 in 18 draws, about once every 2 months
10 of 5910£20£401 in 9.4 draws, about once every 5 weeks
12 of 5915£30£601 in 5.7 draws, about once every 3 weeks
15 of 5931£62£1241 in 3.3 draws, about once every 2 weeks
18 of 5948£96£1921 in 2.2 draws, about once a week or more

The cost per week covers both draws a week. The tool above also has cheaper wheels with weaker guarantees, and bigger ones that guarantee four or five numbers.

Match-2 wheels: more numbers for fewer tickets

In Lotto, two numbers on one line pays £1. A match-2 wheel guarantees that whenever at least two of the winning numbers are among the ones you mark, at least one ticket matches two. That takes far fewer tickets than a three-number guarantee, so the same money covers many more numbers.

It doesn't change your odds or your average return: whichever tickets you play, two-number prizes give back about 10% of what you spend. What it changes is how regularly those small wins come and, with more numbers marked, how often three or four winning numbers land among yours by luck.

Key-number wheels

A key number goes on every ticket, and a smaller wheel covers the rest of your numbers. That cuts the cost a lot, which is why key wheels are popular. The catch is that the guarantee only counts in draws where your key is drawn, and in Lotto any one number is drawn about once in 10 draws.

So for the same money, a normal wheel's guarantee comes into play more often. Here are three-number guarantees side by side:

Every £2 line plays both rounds of a draw, and each round pays its own prizes, so one line can win twice. Below the jackpot every prize is fixed: £1 for two numbers, £10 for three, £50 for four, £1,000 for five and £1 million for five plus the Bonus Ball. The jackpot starts at £2 million and must be won after five rollovers, or it rolls down (two numbers then pay £5). Odds and chances here are per £2 line per draw, counting both rounds, as the National Lottery quotes them. Rules, prizes and odds were checked on October 4, 2026 against the official source; always confirm them, and your results, at national-lottery.co.uk.

Can a wheel improve your odds?

No. Each line still has the same 1 in 22,528,737 chance at the top prize and returns about £0.73 in other prizes on average, however you choose its numbers. What a wheel changes is how your wins are grouped: random tickets can all miss even when the draw lands on your numbers, and a wheel makes sure at least one ticket catches them. Questions

How many numbers should I mark?

As many as your budget allows. In Lotto, going from 8 to 18 numbers takes the cost from £8 to £96 a draw, and the three-number guarantee from 1 in 18 draws to 1 in 2.2. Lottery pools can afford the bigger wheels, which is where wheels make the most sense.

How do I play these tickets in the UK?

In shops, only official National Lottery play slips are accepted, so copy each line onto a play slip by hand. You can also buy online at national-lottery.co.uk or in the National Lottery app if you live in the UK or the Isle of Man and you're there when you play.
