About Daily Grand

Daily Grand's top prize is $1,000 a day for life, or $7 million cash, for all five numbers and the Grand Number. Five numbers without it pay $25,000 a year for life, or $500,000 cash. Every prize is fixed, from $20 for three numbers to $1,000 for four plus the Grand Number.

The Grand Number is picked from 1 to 7, so it comes up about once in seven draws. It makes every prize bigger, and it wins on its own: $4 with one number, and a free play with none.

Matching two numbers without the Grand Number pays nothing in Daily Grand, so every wheel here guarantees at least a three-number match. Be wary of any system that promises "two numbers every time."

What Daily Grand wheels cost

Each of these wheels guarantees a three-number match ($20) whenever at least three of the winning numbers are among the ones you mark. The more numbers you mark, the more often that happens, and the more tickets it takes.

Numbers you markTicketsCost per drawCost per weekHow often the guarantee comes into play
8 of 498$24$481 in 39 draws, about once every 4 months
10 of 4917$51$1021 in 20 draws, about once every 2 months
12 of 4929$87$1741 in 12 draws, about once every 6 weeks
15 of 4955$165$3301 in 6.3 draws, about once every 3 weeks
18 of 4994$282$5641 in 3.9 draws, about once every 2 weeks

The cost per week covers both draws a week. The tool above also has cheaper wheels with weaker guarantees, and bigger ones that guarantee four or five numbers.

Key-number wheels

A key number goes on every ticket, and a smaller wheel covers the rest of your numbers. That cuts the cost a lot, which is why key wheels are popular. The catch is that the guarantee only counts in draws where your key is drawn, and in Daily Grand any one number is drawn about once in 10 draws.

So for the same money, a normal wheel's guarantee comes into play more often. Here are three-number guarantees side by side:

Every prize is fixed. The top prize is $1,000 a day for life or $7 million cash, and the second $25,000 a year for life or $500,000 cash; when more than one ticket wins either, the cash amount is shared. Average return counts the second prize at its $500,000 cash value. Can a wheel improve your odds?

No. Each line still has the same 1 in 13,348,188 chance at the top prize and returns about $0.99 in other prizes on average, however you choose its numbers. What a wheel changes is how your wins are grouped: random tickets can all miss even when the draw lands on your numbers, and a wheel makes sure at least one ticket catches them. Questions

How many numbers should I mark?

As many as your budget allows. In Daily Grand, going from 8 to 18 numbers takes the cost from $24 to $282 a draw, and the three-number guarantee from 1 in 39 draws to 1 in 3.9. Lottery pools can afford the bigger wheels, which is where wheels make the most sense.

Which Grand Number should I use?

Your choice. Putting the same Grand Number on every ticket means that if it's drawn, every ticket matches it. Mixing them means more of your tickets have a chance, but only one or two can match. On average the two pay the same.

How do I play these tickets?

Fill in a selection slip for each line at any lottery retailer, or buy online from your provincial lottery while you're in the province: OLG.ca in Ontario, PlayNow.com in British Columbia and Manitoba, PlayAlberta.ca in Alberta, the Lotto Spot! app across Western Canada, alc.ca in Atlantic Canada and lotoquebec.com in Québec.
